Suppliers with Recommendations

We will review the suppliers we use and the Northern New England producers on this web page. Simply follow the links below:

Flours, grains and Olive Oil - The Bakers Catalogue owned by King Arthur Flour. We recommend King Arthur flours for all of your baking needs. In particular try King Arthur’s European Bread flour the next time you make bread. We also recommend the Littleton Grist Mill for great flours and corn meals. We have baked extensively with products from both suppliers and have never been disappointed.

We recommend Novello’s Fior Fiore as a very good, reasonably priced Extra Virgin Olive Oil (EVOO) for that special flavor at low temperatures or in dressings. Fior Fiore can be ordered from the Bakers Catalogue. If you want top of the line EVOO a large selection is available at O&Co of Boston who will ship anywhere.

Spices and Herbs - Penzeys Spices. We highly recommend Penzeys for any herb or spice you need. We used Penzeys when we ran our restaurant and we use only Penseys at the LRCI.

General Kitchen Equipment - We recommend the Chefs Catalogue for pots, pans, knives and electrical kitchen appliances. We also recommend Sur La Table also for general cookware but also for those harder to find things. For other fine tableware and utensils try Crate and Barrel and William Sonoma.

Local Cheeses - On the west side of Woodstock, VT on Route 4 you will find the Woodstock Farmers Market. They are a wonderful source for locally made cheeses, fresh produce and baked goods.

A great cheese is Four Corners Caerphilly made at Cobb Hill Cheese. This is a true caerphilly in the original Welsh tradition.

We also enjoyed Trillium an organic three layer cheese by Lazy Lady Farm. A solid cheese, with each layer separated by blue cheese mold, it is surprisingly mild and flavorful.

Wine - Chase Street Market on Main Street in Plymouth is a good source for a variety of excellent wines that you will not find in the local New Hampshire State Liquor Stores. Also check out their deli and gourmet food selections. A little further away, on Route 4 in Mendon, VT, the Mendon Wine Cellar is definitely worth a visit. They have a wonderful selection of premium wines that are hard to find outside of the big cities.

Jams, Jellies and Preserves - The Trappist Monks based in Massachusetts make a wonderful array of find jams, jellies and preserves. We especially like their Sherry Wine Jelly on duck. Also try Stonewall Kitchen for jams and grilling sauces.

Coffee - Pete’s of San Francisco will ship you some of the finest, if not the finest, coffees in the world.

Locally produced great coffee can be found at Cafe Monte Alto, a roaster in Plymouth, NH that gives 10% of the proceeds from their sales to the Impoverished School in Cedropampa, Peru. They can be reached at 603.528.8416 and at montealto@verizon.net.

Crackers - We love the crackers from Stonewall Kitchen for cheese and appetizers. We especially like their Down East Crackers: Rosemary Parmesan. Try these crackers with a a forkful of our Roast Beef & Gorgonzola Salad on top.

Meat - The pork raised on Tranquility Farm in Danbury, NH is fed Stonyfield Yogurt. The resulting pork and sausage is wonderful. Tell Steve we sent you.

Venison - We like the venison from Bonny Brae farms for quality, but the price is on the steep end.

Organic Beef - Try the tenderloins from Tower Hill Farm, Maryska and Tony Giunta are raising some wonderful grass fed beef.

Produce - Some of the best produce we have tasted comes from Long View Farm in Plymouth and Long Haul Farm in Holderness. Especially try Long View’s corn in season.
